Before starting to talk about this breed of American pitbull dog, I would like to share with you a great discovery that I realized during my research. The American Pitbull terrier says Pitbull “does not exist” in France. Indeed, this breed of dog is not officially recognized in the hexagon but is in the United States.
In France, the term Pitbull is used to design dogs of the type or american staffordshire terrier not registered with the LOF or whose crossings are not really known. It is more of a term used to designate a type of dog rather than a distinct breed.
“Did you know that Pitbull is not allowed in Denver (USA), in part of Florida, in England, New Zealand, certain cities of Switzerland (cantons of Geneva and Valais)? Well yes that reputation has surpassed everything else.”
Born in England, Ireland and Scotland in the 1930s, breeders sought to create new breeds by crossing Bulldogs and Terriers. The American Staffordshire Terrier has been created with the American Staffordshire Terrier (a very precise dog with a strong but very balanced temperament) and the American Pitbull Terrier (larger dog with more developed aggressiveness and Stronger maxilla), recognized in the United States and not in France.
Historically, the American Pitbull Terrier has been bred to fight bulls and bears in arenas or pits. Hence its name “Pit” (pit) “Bull” (bull).
The American Pitbull Terrier (born in the USA) is born faithful, intelligent and gentle like all other breeds of dogs.
His education is primordial (just like his fellow Rottweiler) and can make him aggressive or gentle as a lamb. This is why an intensive and very serious education from an early age is essential.
- Height: 43 to 56 cm
- Weight: 13.6 to 27 kg for females and 16 to 29.5 kg for males
His dress can be plain or unstructured: Black, Red, Brown, White, Bristle and several others -Black, White-Red, White-Brown, Tricolor …) presenting either a Black Nose, a Red Nose or a Blue Nose.
Special Features of American Pitbull Terrier
The Pitbull is very intelligent and likes to satisfy his master which will make his education rather easy but to take seriously. His socialization from an early age is very important for his well-being and future behavior.
Its iron jaw is one of the strongest in the canine world. When he holds he does not let go.
Health: This breed of dog is prone to heart problems, dysplasia and allergies but remains a rather stout dog. Average life expectancy: 12/14 years
Grooming: Very easy to maintain, Pitbull will require only occasional brushing to eliminate dead hair, dust, debris.
Environment: He can live a little everywhere provided he brings all the exercise he needs.
Each dog has its own personality and its particularities but in general the Pitbull is, once well educated, a faithful companion for many years. It does not require regular maintenance and can live everywhere. He needs a lot of exercise and an important education. By bringing him everything he needs, you will find in him a faithful, gentle companion and ready to do anything to satisfy you.
